  • No plastics- Towards zero carbon footprint

Plastic pollution has become a serious concern worldwide, and plastic has turned into a menace mainly due to its non-biodegradable nature. Problems associated with plastic pollution including chocking of soil, blockage of water pathways, death of animals etc are increasing day by day making it essential to cut down the dependency on plastics by people to a larger extend. As an initiative to reduce plastic pollution in Kerala, TIES launched a school based project which aimed to reduce the carbon footprints of Keralites through “reduce, reuse and recycle” measures. Major objectives of this project are:

    1. Reducing consumption of plastic bags and other common plastic waste materials in Kerala through various means
    2. Developing innovative techniques to promote the reuse and recycle of plastic carry bags and other common plastic waste materials
    3. Popularizing these techniques through school children, thus their families and ultimately the society
    4. Supporting household economy through selling of value-added products made out of waste plastics
