2024-11-15

First-year undergraduate Zoology students from Catholicate College, Pathanamthitta, and Government College, Elanthoor, recently participated in a one-day skill training programme under the Enjoy Learning Skills initiative. This hands-on training focused on fish farming, floral identification, and faunal identification, attracting 43 enthusiastic students guided by their faculty mentors, Dr. Mintu Ann Varghese, Dr. Shilpa Narayanan, Ms. Anusha Merin Wilson, and Ms. Susan K. Wilson.

The sessions were conducted by experienced professionals. Mr. Surendran Nair C. R., Retired Deputy Director of Fisheries, provided insights into aquaculture, covering production systems, backyard fish farming, and fish health management practices. Mr. Sarath Babu N. B., Nature Education Officer at TIES, led an interactive session on creating low-cost water filtration systems for aquaculture and introduced students to plant and animal species identification techniques based on floral characteristics and basic faunal traits.

This programme bridged theoretical knowledge with practical application, fostering a deeper understanding of Zoology while equipping students with essential skills to enhance their future career prospects.
