Research Workshop at Kuriakose Elias College Equips Students with Scientific Skills

Kuriakose Elias College, in collaboration with the Tropical Institute of Ecological Sciences (TIES), hosted a one-day workshop titled "Mastering Research Methodology: Tools & Techniques for Undergraduate Projects." Sponsored by the DBT-Star College Scheme of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, the workshop aimed to enhance research skills among undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The event was designed to improve scientific skills and research methodology, providing crucial preparation for final-year projects. Expert sessions covered key topics such as literature review writing, experiment design, data analysis, and research communication, all aimed at nurturing future scientists.

Dr. Punnen Kurian, Secretary of TIES, led the training, which included two technical sessions: "Student Projects & Research" and "Steps of a Student Project." Ice-breaking activities were conducted by Dr. Nelson P. Abraham, Vice President of TIES and an international trainer, while Dr. Abraham Samuel K., President of TIES, engaged in discussions with students on sample projects.

The workshop was attended by 108 students from the Departments of Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, and Physics. It was presided over by Dr. Ison V. Vanchipurackal, inaugurated by Dr. Punnen Kurian, and felicitated by Dr. Midhila Baby, Assistant Professor in the Department of Botany and DBT Star College Coordinator. Nisha Maria E. G., Head of the Department of Zoology, delivered the vote of thanks.

During the valedictory function, Fr. Dr. Xavier C. S., Vice-Principal, gave the presidential address, and Rose Mary N. J., Assistant Professor in the Department of Zoology, delivered the vote of thanks. Certificates were awarded to all students by Fr. Dr. Xavier C. S.
