Seminar on Freshwater Habitat Conservation at St. Mary’s HSS, Mankulam

Tropical Institute of Ecological Sciences, in collaboration with the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN), hosted a one-day seminar at St. Mary’s HSS, Mankulam, focusing on the conservation of freshwater habitats in Munnar. The seminar, held in the school seminar hall and attended by 200 students from Classes 8, 9, and 10, began with Mr. Jomet John (HST English) welcoming the audience. Mrs. Anitha Thomas (HST Malayalam), Staff Secretary, delivered the Presidential address, while Mrs. Jyothimol V.A., Headmistress, inaugurated the event with an inspiring speech.


Mr. Nihal Hussain T.P., Project Officer of the TIES IUCN Project, led the seminar sessions, educating participants on freshwater habitats, associated organisms, and detailing conservation efforts in Munnar. Emphasizing the role of students in conservation, he encouraged proactive efforts. Mr. Bechu Punnen Abraham, Project Assistant, delivered the vote of thanks, and Mr. Praful V. Panicker handled the media coverage for the seminar. Students expressed appreciation for the informative session, highlighting its relevance and educational value.
