Community Biodiversity Registers

Peoples Biodiversity Register (PBR) is a document which contains comprehensive information on locally available Bio-resources including landscape and demography of a particular area or village, documented by the local community themselves. School Based Biodiversity Register (SBBR) is more comprehensive and scientific as it is prepared by the children gathering information from elders and making field surveys under the guidance of experts and teachers. TIES has successfully completed several projects that led to the preparation of SBBR, by the children like “My River My Life” for Meenachil River and Chalakudy River, where children from river bank schools effectively documented river and riparian biodiversity and related traditional knowledge; and “My School My Village” in which children prepared SBBR which documented biodiversity of the school and surrounding area with related traditional knowledge in Kottayam, Idukki & Pathanamthitta districts. School community benefitted by getting training in research methodology and became a repository of local knowledge. SBBR is now considered as an accepted document of local biodiversity and traditional knowledge.
