2024-09-11

The Department of Zoology at K E College, Mannanam, in collaboration with TIES, hosted a dynamic one-day field and lab study program titled "Enjoy Learning," aimed at enhancing undergraduate students' knowledge of biodiversity conservation. The program featured engaging sessions and practical lab activities designed to inspire environmental awareness.

Dr. Punnen Kurian, Secretary of TIES, led a session on “Ecofriendly Lifestyle: Sustainable Solutions to Environmental Issues,” emphasizing the importance of adopting nature-friendly habits in today’s human-centric world. He discussed the urgent need to preserve the planet’s diverse ecosystems.

Following the session, students participated in a nature walk, which provided an immersive learning experience on sustainable practices and eco-friendly architecture found on campus. The walk also allowed students to explore the local biodiversity, highlighting the vital role of native species in maintaining ecological balance.

In addition to the field experience, students gained practical skills through hands-on laboratory sessions, including mushroom farming techniques.

The program not only expanded students’ understanding of biodiversity conservation but also nurtured a sense of responsibility toward environmental stewardship and sustainability.

The training was coordinated by Dr. Soumya Das, Ms. Nisha Maria E. G., Ms. Rose Mary N. J., and Ms. Reema Rose Mani from the Department of Zoology, along with Mr. Sarath Babu N. B., Nature Education Officer, Ms. Anju Ajikumar, Laboratory Manager, and Ms. Arya Shaji, Project Assistant from TIES.

The program concluded with a heartfelt remark from Ms. Sreya Baby, a 3rd-year student, who, along with others, expressed that the day's experience felt like a nature camp.
