Students, the future custodians of our planet, play a crucial role in safeguarding nature. Therefore, educating them on the importance of conservation is vital. As part of the TIES IUCN Project, a seminar was held at the Government Higher Secondary School (Tamil Medium), Chinnakanal, to raise awareness about the significance of conserving freshwater ecosystems and habitats in the ongoing conservation efforts in Munnar.

The seminar began with an inaugural session where Mrs. Bella G. (U.P. Senior Assistant) delivered the Presidential Address. Mr. Raja P. (Headmaster, GHSS Chinnakanal) inaugurated the event with a speech that highlighted the current water-related challenges in Munnar and emphasized the need for sustainable ecosystem restoration. A total of 66 participants, including students from classes 5 to 12 and their teachers, attended the seminar. Dr. Lekshmi Priya R. (HST Hindi) and Mr. Rakul P.P. (HSST Political Science) also offered their felicitations during the event.

Mr. Bechu Punnen Abraham, Project Assistant for the TIES IUCN Project, led the seminar, offering insights into freshwater habitats, their diverse ecosystems, and ongoing conservation initiatives aimed at protecting threatened odonates and fish species in Munnar. The seminar also encouraged students to actively participate in biodiversity conservation efforts and practice effective waste management. The event was coordinated by Project Officers Mr. Nihal Hussain T.P. and Mr. Praful V. Panicker.

Overall, the seminar received positive feedback from the students, who appreciated the valuable knowledge and insights on conservation strategies for sustainable biodiversity.
