Empowering Beekeepers TIES Comprehensive Apiculture Training for Sustainable Agriculture and Environmental Well-being

2023-12-16

Apiculture training plays a crucial role in providing individuals with the necessary knowledge and skills essential for successful beekeeping. As part of its commitment to community development and capacity building, TIES organized a one-day training program on apiculture. This comprehensive program enabled participants to explore the intricacies of bee biology, hive management, and the production of bee-related products such as honey.

The training covered practical aspects, including the construction of hives, the proper handling of beekeeping equipment, and the management of diseases. Following the theoretical training, participants engaged in hands-on sessions covering various types of bees (queen, worker, drone), daily hive management, and colony division.

Beyond the technical aspects, apiculture training underscored the ecological significance of bees in providing pollination services and emphasized the importance of sustainable practices for environmental well-being. By fostering a profound understanding of responsible beekeeping techniques and adherence to regulations, apiculture training not only nurtures a new generation of skilled beekeepers but also contributes to the preservation of bee populations and the promotion of sustainable agriculture. The training was led by Dr Punnen Kurian and Sarath Babu N B.
