The Social Work Department of BVM Holy Cross College, in collaboration with TIES, organized a dynamic field-and-lab study program titled "Enjoy Learning" for first-year BSW students. Designed to enhance the students' understanding of biodiversity conservation, the program featured interactive sessions and practical experiences.
Dr. Punnen Kurian, Secretary of TIES, led the opening session, introducing key concepts of biodiversity conservation. He emphasized its importance, the challenges we face in protecting natural ecosystems, and the urgent need for preservation efforts.
After the session, students participated in a campus walk to explore eco-friendly architecture and sustainable practices. Highlights included demonstrations of household waste management techniques and a basic introduction to water quality analysis, underscoring the importance of responsible environmental stewardship.
The program also included a field walk, where students examined the native biodiversity surrounding the campus. This hands-on experience highlighted the critical role of local ecosystems and the importance of preserving native flora and fauna for ecological balance.
The initiative not only deepened the students' knowledge of biodiversity conservation but also fostered a sense of environmental responsibility and sustainability. The program was coordinated by Mr. Janson Varghese, Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work, Mr. Sarath Babu N.B., Nature Education Officer, and Ms. Anju Ajikumar, Laboratory Manager., Ms. Neethu Nair M N, Project Assistant, and Ms. Anoopa Mathews, PRO from TIES.
