2026-03-13

Emphasising experiential learning beyond the classroom, fourth semester FYUGP students from the Departments of Chemistry, Botany, English, Zoology, Mathematics, and Physics of Bishop Moore College Mavelikara participated in a focused one-day skill training programme organised by Tropical Institute of Ecological Sciences under the Enjoy Learning Skills initiative.

The programme centred on the practical dimensions of water quality analysis and engaged 19 students under the guidance of faculty mentors Dr. Abha K, Dr. Bessy Mary Philip, and Mrs. Silpa Anu Mathew.

The session commenced with an address by Dr. Punnen Kurian, Secretary of TIES, who presented an overview of the organisation, highlighting its key initiatives and laboratory services.

The technical sessions were facilitated by Ms. Anju Ajikumar, Lab In-charge at TIES, who provided comprehensive insights into water quality, water pollution, and water safety. She elaborated on critical water quality parameters and analytical methodologies, followed by a hands-on demonstration of water quality analysis.

Subsequently, Ms. Gopika Gopakumar, Lab Assistant, introduced participants to essential laboratory equipment, with support from Ms. Surya S. K, TIES intern, during the practical sessions.

The programme offered valuable hands-on exposure, significantly enhancing students’ understanding of water quality assessment. The initiative was efficiently coordinated by the TIES team, including Mr. Sarath Babu N. B (Nature Education Officer), Mr. Jijomon P. P (Designer & Digital Media Manager), and Ms. Megha M. M (Communication Officer).

Overall, the training effectively bridged theoretical concepts with real-world application, equipping students with critical skills and strengthening their readiness for future academic and professional endeavours.
