Empowering Students with Essential Research Skills: Student Project Workshop

2024-10-10

The second student project workshop for Social Science, History, and Commerce students was held on October 10, 2024. In today’s academic landscape, project-based learning is an essential component of education, offering students a deeper understanding of key concepts while fostering an open-minded approach to research. The workshop was designed to develop research skills for students engaged in project work.

Participants included students from prestigious institutions such as BCM College, Kottayam; MSM College, Kayamkulam; K E College, Mannanam; Baselius College, Kottayam; and Catholicate College, Pathanamthitta. A total of 60 undergraduate and postgraduate students from the History, English, and Political Science departments attended the event, which featured four technical sessions.

The primary goal of the workshop was to equip students with the skills required to carry out independent projects, as mandated by their academic programs, while building a strong foundation in research methodology. Led by Dr. Sebastian Joseph, Head of the Division of Environmental History and Anthropocene Studies at TIES, and Dr. Punnen, Secretary of TIES, the workshop covered key research aspects such as topic selection, setting objectives, research methods, and project development.

Hands-on sessions focused on research techniques relevant to students, providing them with practical skills in data collection and analysis. Beyond aiding students in completing their projects, the workshop empowered them with valuable research competencies, fostering a deeper appreciation for and understanding of historical studies.
