World Environment Day at TIES was a celebration of
nature's beauty and a commitment to its preservation, highlighted by a
heartfelt tree planting ceremony and an educational training session. This
year, the institute enriched its botanical diversity with the addition of the
elegant Garlic Pear tree (Crateva magna) and the medicinal Malabar Nut
(Justicia adhatoda). The event was gracefully inaugurated by TIES' esteemed
senior staff member, Ms. Omana Sreedharan Nair, who planted a tree sapling,
symbolizing the institute’s enduring dedication to environmental stewardship.
Complementing this act of conservation, an enlightening awareness session on
"Biodiversity and Its Loss" was held for the young minds of Govt. L P
School, Velloor. Spearheaded by Anoopa Mathews, this session imparted crucial
knowledge about the significance of biodiversity, the pressing threats it
faces, and actionable steps for its preservation. Through these combined
efforts, TIES not only celebrated the essence of World Environment Day but also
fostered a sense of environmental responsibility and enthusiasm among the next
generation, ensuring a greener, more sustainable future. TIES staff members,
interns and students actively participated in the programme.
Adding to the programme, a 24-hour photography
competition was held as part of WED 2024. Among the numerous entries, the
photograph by Ms. Mili Mary Josep from Pala was selected as the best, perfectly
capturing the essence of the theme.
