In a remarkable initiative, Don Bosco Central School, Puthupally, in collaboration with TIES, organized an insightful one-day field-cum-lab study program titled "Enjoy Learning" for Plus One students. The program, designed to enhance students' understanding of biodiversity conservation, featured engaging sessions and hands-on experiences.
Dr. Sebastian Joseph, Head of the Division of Environmental History at TIES, led a session on “Being Green in an Anthropocene Age.” He introduced students to the importance of being nature-friendly in the current human-dominated era and discussed the challenges of preserving our planet's rich natural diversity.
Following this enlightening session, students embarked on a campus walk, an immersive experience aimed at familiarizing them with eco-friendly architecture and sustainable practices. Highlights of the walk included insights into household waste management techniques and the basics of water quality analysis, all aligned with the principles of responsible environmental stewardship.
The educational journey continued with a field walk, allowing students to explore the native biodiversity in the surrounding area. This hands-on field experience emphasized the significance of preserving local ecosystems and understanding the role of native flora and fauna in maintaining ecological balance.
The program not only provided a unique opportunity for students to deepen their knowledge of biodiversity conservation but also fostered a sense of environmental responsibility and sustainability.
The training was coordinated by Mr. Sarath Babu N B, Nature Education Officer, Ms. Anju Ajikumar, Laboratory Manager, Ms. Arya Shaji, Project Assistant, Ms. Anoopa Mathews, PRO from TIES, along with Dominic Saj Jose, Sonu Mathew, and Anu S. Nair from Don Bosco School.
