Sustainability in Action: Mar Thoma College Embraces Green
Audit:- Mar Thoma for Women College,
Perumbavoor, has initiated an ISO-standard Green Audit, demonstrating a strong
institutional commitment to sustainability. This comprehensive audit, designed
to support NAAC accreditation, encompasses a wide range of environmental
factors, including environmental sustainability, water resource management,
biodiversity conservation, occupational health and safety, carbon footprint
analysis, and energy efficiency. Its broad scope positions the College for
consideration for various national and international accreditations and awards.
A significant element of this initiative was the formal
execution of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Mar Thoma for Women
College and the Tropical Institute of Ecological Sciences (TIES). The MoU,
signed by Dr. Letha P Cheriyan, Principal of Mar Thoma for Women College, and
Dr. Punnen Kurian, Director of TIES, establishes a collaborative framework for
TIES to conduct the Green Audit and assist in implementing sustainability
programs on campus. The signing ceremony was attended by Mr. P K Kuruvila
(Treasurer), Dr. Vineedkumar K (IQAC Coordinator), and Ms. Reemy Sara Mathew
(Green Audit Coordinator), Dr. Anupama P, Dr. Poulose Thomas, Dr. Jijo Jayaraj
(Assistant Professor)
Following the MoU signing, a dedicated training session on
internal auditing procedures was conducted for selected faculty and students.
Led by Dr. Punnen Kurian and Abhirami K. P. (Project Manager, TIES), this
training equipped participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to
effectively contribute to the audit process. The session provided practical
guidance on internal auditing methodologies and their application within the
context of the Green Audit. The training was coordinated by Ms. Arya M.L., Ms.
Anu Joy, Ms. Seira Susan Prasad, Ms. Sherin T. Abraham, Ms. Manju Varghese, Ms.
Jismy Varghese, Ms. Anna Mary Jos, and Ms. K. H. Sreelakshmi, faculty members from
the college along with Surya S. Vijayan from TIES.
This collaborative undertaking represents a crucial step
towards comprehensive environmental assessment and the development of a
sustainable campus environment at Mar Thoma for Women College.
