Munnar's TIES IUCN Project has taken a significant step towards protecting freshwater ecosystems and endangered species by organizing crucial one-day seminars in various schools. These seminars are part of the ongoing awareness campaign for the "Conservation of Freshwater Habitat in Munnar".
A notable seminar was held at the Government Model Residential School auditorium in Munnar, attracting significant attention to pressing environmental concerns in the region. The event saw the participation of 150 students from Classes 7 to 12.
The seminar began with an inaugural session where Mr. Sudheesh P., the school's Principal, welcomed the audience warmly. Mr. Anil T.S., the Headmaster, chaired the session and delivered the presidential address. Mr. Shibu M.G., Senior Superintendent at MRS, officially inaugurated the seminar and provided the opening remarks. Mrs. Soniya, the Staff Secretary, and Mr. Babu T.C., Senior Staff at the high school, extended their felicitations for the event.
Mr. Nihal Hussain T.P., Project Officer of the TIES IUCN Project, led an informative session covering essential topics such as freshwater ecosystems, their habitats, waste management, and biodiversity conservation. He highlighted the TIES IUCN Project's efforts in Munnar, focusing on freshwater conservation to educate the students. The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Bechu Punnen Abraham, Project Assistant, representing the TIES IUCN Project.
The students responded positively to the seminar, sharing their experiences of gaining valuable insights into environmental conservation.
