Research skills are essential for students to solve problems, communicate ideas, develop critical thinking, and build competence. To foster these skills, a workshop was held for students in History, Sociology, Political Science, and Commerce. Participants included students from prestigious institutions such as Sree Sankara College, Chempazhanthy; Mar Thoma College for Women, Perumbavoor; Sree Sankara College, Kalady; Government College, Chittur; and Carmel College, Mala. A total of 82 undergraduate and postgraduate students from these disciplines attended, participating in four technical sessions.
The workshop’s primary goal was to equip students with the skills needed for independent research projects, as required by their academic programs, while building a strong foundation in research methodology. Led by Dr. Sebastian Joseph, Head of the Division of Environmental History and Anthropocene Studies at TIES, and Dr. Punnen, Secretary of TIES, the workshop covered critical research elements such as topic selection, objective setting, research methods, and project development.
Hands-on sessions focused on research techniques relevant to the students, giving them practical skills in data collection and analysis. In addition to aiding them with their academic projects, the workshop empowered students with valuable research competencies, fostering a deeper appreciation for and understanding of their fields of study.
The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Lekha N.B., Assistant Professor at Sree Sankara College, Chempazhanthy, along with Ms. Nisha V., Ms. Saranya M.S., Mr. Sarath Babu N.B., Ms. Anoopa Mathews, Ms. Abhirami K.P., Ms. Abirsha, and Mr. Jijomon P.P. from TIES.
