Marian College, Kuttikanam (Autonomous) marked a significant step toward environmental sustainability with the release of its ISO Certification and the Marian Green Audit Report on 11 March 2026 at the Magis Mini Auditorium. The certification follows a comprehensive audit cycle conducted by the Tropical Institute of Ecological Sciences (TIES), during which certified internal auditors addressed all identified non-conformities, ensuring full compliance with ISO standards. The audit process, from initial assessment to certification issuance was completed efficiently through meticulous planning and coordinated efforts.
The Green Audit encompassed a comprehensive evaluation of the college across critical domains, including the Environment Management System (EMS- ISO 14001), Energy Management System (EnMS-ISO 50001 ), Water Efficiency Management System (WEMS -ISO 46001), Campus Biodiversity Management System (CBMS-≈ISO 14001), Waste Management System (WMS-ISO 14001), Occupational Health & Safety Management System (OHS-≈ISO 14001), and Carbon Footprint (CF-ISO 14067). These evaluations, conducted in alignment with ISO standards, demonstrate the institution’s systematic approach to implementing sustainability across operational and academic functions.
The program began with a prayer song, followed by a short audiovisual presentation showcasing the college’s sustainability initiatives. Prof. Dr. Ajimon George, Principal, delivered the welcome address, appreciating the collective efforts of faculty, staff, and the audit team. Rev. Fr. Boby Alex Mannamplackal, Manager, and Rev. Thomas Abraham addressed the gathering, emphasizing the institution’s commitment to sustainability and the importance of environmental responsibility.
Dr. Punnen Kurian, Director, TIES, provided a concise summary of the audit process, detailing the methodology, data collection, and evaluation procedures that ensured full ISO compliance. Dr. T V Muralivallabhan, Director, Marian Centre for Sustainable Development, elaborated on the college’s ongoing sustainable initiatives and their alignment with the Green Audit findings.
Dr. Suzanna Oommen, Green Audit Coordinator, shared a comprehensive account of the entire Green Audit journey, detailing the planning, data collection, evaluation, and implementation of sustainability initiatives across the campus. The presentation highlighted that the successful completion of the Green Audit at ISO standards was largely due to her dedicated efforts and guidance, reflecting her key contribution to coordinating the process. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Juby George, IQAC Joint Coordinator, recognizing the combined efforts of faculty, staff, and the task force in achieving this milestone. Dr. Joby Cyriac, IQAC coordinator, Marian College, Sarath Babu, Nature Education Officer & AO, TIES, Ananya Palakka, Project Manager, Green Audit, TIES, Naomi Mair campoy, and Josepha Priyanka Barla from TIES attended the function.
