2025-02-15

TIES hosted a one-day Educational Engagement and Field Visit Programme for students from Block Resource Centres (BRC) Tripunithura, offering them valuable experiential learning opportunities in ecological sciences.

During the visit, students explored various aspects of biodiversity conservation and management under the guidance of Dr. Punnen Kurian, Director, TIES. They also attended an insightful session on “Understanding Social Research” conducted by Dr. Sebastian Joseph, Head of Environmental History and Anthropocene Studies, TIES.

The programme featured several interactive activities, including a Nature Walk led by Mr. Sarath Babu N B, Nature Education Officer, TIES. This walk allowed students to discover the rich biodiversity surrounding the TIES campus while learning about native flora and fauna. It aimed to instill an appreciation for nature and highlight the significance of conservation.

Students also participated in a Bio-Waste Management Training session conducted by Ms. Anoopa Mathews, PRO, TIES. They were introduced to sustainable bio-waste disposal practices at household levels. The session included hands-on demonstrations of various waste management techniques such as Vermicomposting, Kamba compost, Pot compost, Pipe compost, and the use of biogas plants.

Additionally, the students took part in a Water Quality Analysis workshop, where they learned to conduct different tests to assess water quality. This activity underscored the importance of water conservation.

This educational initiative not only enhanced the students' understanding of ecological sciences but also inspired them to become proactive environmental stewards. Through these programmes, TIES continues its mission to promote environmental education and empower the younger generation to contribute to a sustainable future.

The programme was coordinated by Ms. Shini K N, Block Project Co-Ordinator, BRC Tripunithura; Ms.Abhirami KP and Ms. Lijitha, from TIES and was attended by 32 students and 13 teachers from 8 schools under BRC Tripunithura.
