On this World Environment Day, in
harmony with the theme "Land Restoration for the Future," a butterfly
garden graced the Caterpillar campus in Thiruvallur, Chennai. TIES, as the
implementing partner for Caterpillar Inc. Ltd.'s sustainability project, led
the initiative. Three meticulously landscaped gardens adorned the front of the
office and cafeteria buildings, covering an area of five cents. A total of 1400
saplings, representing 45 species, were thoughtfully planted. Notably, on the
day of its inauguration, the garden welcomed visitors in the form of 12
butterfly species, eliciting admiration from all present. During his inaugural
address, Mr. Sekar Murugesan, Director, Global Procurement, Caterpillar,
reflected on how the garden evokes childhood memories, emphasizing its dual
role in preserving the area's biodiversity and raising community awareness
about nature conservation. Mr. Santharam Ragavan, Director Manufacturing
Operations, read the pledge of the day. Dr. Punnen Kurian, Director of TIES,
elucidated the methodology behind enhancing biodiversity through butterfly
gardens. Ms. Smitha S., Head of CSR, introduced the esteemed guests and noted
that this marks the campus's first sustainability garden. Mr. Basavaraj
