Training for the Meenachil Odonate Survey

A training program preceding the Meenachil Odonate Survey took place at TIES Grove Hall, inaugurated by Mr. Shantry Tom, Assistant Conservator of Forest, Social Forestry, Kottayam. Dr. Abraham Samuel K, President of TIES, spearheaded the training, focusing on providing participants with comprehensive knowledge of dragonflies and damselflies, their habitats, reproduction, significance, survey techniques, and more. The training attracted 50 participants from diverse backgrounds, including students, professionals, and professors.

The field survey is scheduled for tomorrow (10.12.2023), spanning from Adukkam, the source of the Meenachil River, to its conclusion at Pazhukkanilakayal. Eight teams, each comprised of an expert and participants, will survey 16 designated regions. Dr. Punnen Kurian elucidated the approach for assessing species diversity, while Sarath outlined the survey schedule and provided assignments.
