Training on Meliponiculture held

2022-07-09

Meliponiculture is the care of stingless bees. They are closely related to the honey bees, orchid bees etc. They are highly evolved social insects and live in colonies. Most of the species are not harmful and they can be managed safely. Stingless bees also produce like other honey bees and are also effective pollinators.

TIES as part of its capacity-building programme conducted a one-day training on Meliponiculture. The training was led by Dr Sajan Jose, former Professor of St Joseph’s College, Moolamattam. There were 31 participants and consisted of farmers, home-makers, students, professionals, etc. The training included sessions about Stingless bees, their distribution, hiving techniques, honey extraction, management, etc.
