Thirty more new entrants to the world of farming
Training on mushroom farming was held at TIES for the second-year B. Sc. Zoology students and teachers of Bishop Moore College, Mavelikara. Hafiz, Priyanka, and Sara, are few among the 31 participants who enjoyed the preparation of Mushroom beds for the first time in their life. The training was divided into two parts: a theoretical session and a practical “hands-on” experience. The session covered topics such as an introduction to mushrooms, tissue culture, Mother Spawn production, Spawn Production, Bed preparation, post-harvesting technologies, Mushroom disease management etc. Practical training on bed preparation and other farming techniques were also given. Sessions were handled by Dr. Punnen Kurian and Dr. Roshni Susan Elias. Rather than curriculum-based studies, the college requested this training for their students as a skill or entrepreneurial development programme.
