Training on homewaste management solutions held

25-06-2022

Studies say that about 40% of the food produced in India is wasted. About 90% of the food thrown away ends up in landfills or combustion facilities. Recycling by composting, turning wasted food into animal feed, "left overs" into useful products, source reduction, are some ways by which food waste can be managed.

TIES as part of its capacity-building initiatives conducted training on how to manage food waste at household levels and transform it into fertilizers. A hybrid training (both online & offline training) was conducted on "Home Waste Management Solutions" by TIES on 25th June 2022. The training covered waste, waste management, different home waste management solutions, composting (what and how to and what not to) benefits of composting, how to compost at home, etc. 21 participants attended the programme. The sessions were taken by Dr. Punnen Kurian and Dr. Roshni Susan Elias.
