In pursuit of promoting environmental stewardship, the National Service Scheme (NSS) Volunteers at St. Mary’s College, Manarcaud, recently underwent comprehensive training on waste management. The theme aligned seamlessly with this year's NSS program.
Under the expert guidance of Dr. Punnen Kurian, the training session was attended by 45 enthusiastic students. The program was designed to provide a holistic understanding, incorporating both theoretical knowledge and live demonstrations of various household waste management equipment.
In a practical application of their newfound skills, students successfully constructed two compost pits on the campus, adhering to specified guidelines. This hands-on experience aimed at fostering a culture of sustainability within the college community.
The active participation of NSS Programme officers, Shri. Sherry Mathews and Smt. Jilu Jose, further enriched the training session. Their involvement highlighted the collective commitment to instilling eco-friendly practices among the NSS Volunteers.
This initiative not only equips the students with valuable skills but also contributes to a greener and more responsible future. The NSS Volunteers at St. Mary’s College are taking meaningful steps towards making a positive impact on the environment.
