The valedictory function of the Wings of Awareness programme was successfully conducted at St. George’s Higher Secondary School, Manimala. Prior to the formal proceedings, a post-project survey was conducted among both the participating students and the teachers to evaluate the effectiveness of the programme and to understand the learning outcomes achieved through the project.

The formal session began with a warm welcome address by the Teacher Coordinator, Mr. Manoj Chacko. In his speech, he spoke about the objectives of the Wings of Awareness project and highlighted the benefits the students gained through their active participation. He also mentioned the positive impact the programme had on the students, especially in developing an interest in birds and environmental conservation. He then introduced the dignitaries on the dais, including the TIES team members – Mr. Ajaya Kumar M. N. (Bird Watching Expert, TIES), Mr. Sarath Babu (Nature Education Officer, TIES), and Ms. Suhaana (Project Officer, Wings of Awareness) – along with the school Headmistress, Mrs. Minimol P. S., and the participating students.

The valedictory address was delivered by Mr. Ajaya Kumar M. N. In his speech, he appreciated the enthusiasm and dedication shown by the students throughout the project. He shared valuable insights about the performance of the participants and emphasized the importance of protecting nature and developing a deeper understanding of the environment. His words inspired the students to continue their interest in bird watching and conservation activities even beyond the programme.

The session was followed by the certificate distribution ceremony. The certificate of appreciation for the school was first handed over by the TIES team to the Headmistress in the presence of the teachers. This was followed by the distribution of certificates to the top-performing students, which was carried out by Mr. Sarath Babu. Certificates of appreciation for the teacher coordinators were then presented by the Headmistress in recognition of their dedicated support and guidance throughout the project.

As part of the programme, the students were also given an opportunity to share their experiences. A few participants came forward and expressed how the Wings of Awareness project helped them understand birds better and increased their awareness about nature and conservation.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the student representative, who expressed gratitude to the TIES team, the school management, the teachers, and all the students for making the programme a meaningful and successful one. The valedictory function thus marked a memorable conclusion to the Wings of Awareness project at St. George’s HSS, Manimala.
