2023-10-11

In pursuit of nurturing a holistic understanding of technical fundamentals and fostering complex skills, projects and dissertation works have become pivotal in shaping the educational landscape. These initiatives not only amplify knowledge but also cultivate an open-minded approach towards learning. Project-based courses, in particular, play a vital role in instilling a profound appreciation for knowledge by exposing students to real-world, open-ended challenges.

On October 11, 2023, the Tropical Institute of Ecological Sciences (TIES) hosted a transformative one-day workshop dedicated to student projects. This workshop extended its scope beyond the mere execution of projects; it delved into the intricate processes of topic selection and objective setting, equipping students with essential skills.

The event drew participation from both undergraduate and postgraduate students of several esteemed institutions, including MES College, Edathala, MES College, Mannarkkad, and Mar Thomas College for Women, Perumbavoor. The diversity of the participants fostered rich collaborative learning experiences.

The core objective of the workshop was to imbue students with a robust understanding of the scientific method. Dr. Punnen Kurian, the Secretary of TIES, spearheaded this enlightening session. Under his guidance, students embarked on a journey that unraveled the intricacies of research methodology and project development.
