A FIELD CUM LAB STUDY PROGRAM FOR ZOOLOGY & BOTANY STUDENTS OF BASELIUS COLLEGE, KOTTAYAM

The Department of Zoology at Baselius College, Kottayam, in collaboration with TIES, hosted a dynamic one-day field and lab study program titled "Enjoy Learning," aimed at enhancing undergraduate students' knowledge of biodiversity conservation. The program featured engaging sessions and practical lab activities designed to inspire environmental awareness.

Dr. Punnen Kurian, Secretary of TIES, led a session on “Ecofriendly Lifestyle: Sustainable Solutions to Environmental Issues,” emphasizing the importance of adopting nature-friendly habits in today’s human-centric world. He discussed the urgent need to preserve the planet’s diverse ecosystems.

After the session, students embarked on a nature walk, offering an immersive experience in sustainable practices and the eco-friendly architectural designs showcased on campus. During the walk, they explored the local biodiversity, gaining insights into the crucial role of native species in preserving ecological balance. The activity also included an introduction to apiculture and aquaculture, led by Mr. Sarath Babu N. B., Nature Education Officer at TIES.

In addition to the field experience, students gained practical skills through hands-on laboratory sessions, including water quality analysis techniques lead by Ms. Anju Ajikumar, Laboratory Manager, Ms. Neethu Nair M N, Project Assistant.

The program not only expanded students’ understanding of biodiversity conservation but also nurtured a sense of responsibility toward environmental stewardship and sustainability.

The training was coordinated by Dr. Anit M Thomas., and Ms. Uma Surendran from the Department of Zoology, along with Mr. Jijomon P P, Ms. Abhirami K P and Ms. Megha Babu from TIES.

The program concluded with a heartfelt remark from Ms. Gouri a 1st-year student, who, along with others, expressed that the day's experience felt like a nature camp. The programme was attended by Zoology and Botany students of FYUGP Syllabus.
