The valedictory function of Wings of Awareness, an environmental education initiative of the Tropical Institute of Ecological Sciences (TIES) supported by the BUIMERC India Foundation, was successfully conducted at M.G.M High School, Pampady, marking the formal conclusion of the project in the school.
The event commenced with the administration of the Post-Project Student Survey, enabling participants to reflect on their learning experiences, field observations, and overall development during the programme. This evaluative exercise highlighted the structured and outcome-oriented framework of Wings of Awareness.
A prayer rendered by the students set a serene and dignified tone for the function. This was followed by the welcome address delivered by Preetha Mathew, who warmly received the TIES team members — Sarath Babu, Ajaya Kumar and Suhaana — along with Headmaster Aby Jacob, Reni Teacher, and the assembled students. In her address, she acknowledged the significant exposure and experiential learning opportunities provided through the initiative.
A meaningful segment of the programme was the presentation of the School Participation Certificate by student representatives Ammar P. N., Amruthesh Kulathunkal, and Niya Elsa Biju, symbolizing the students’ active involvement and pride in the successful implementation of the project.
The distribution of Certificates of Amateur Birder to the selected student participants was carried out by Sarath Babu, recognizing their dedication to bird observation, systematic documentation, and ecological awareness. The teacher coordinators, Preetha Mathew and Reni Abraham, were honoured with Certificates of Appreciation presented by Ajaya Kumar, in recognition of their committed guidance and coordination.
The valedictory address was delivered by Ajaya Kumar, who outlined the objectives, field engagements, and measurable outcomes of the programme at M.G.M High School. He encouraged students to sustain their curiosity about biodiversity and to remain proactive in environmental conservation efforts.
Subsequently, the formal handover of the School Certificate from the TIES team to M.G.M High School, Pampady signified the official completion of the Wings of Awareness project at the institution.
Headmaster Aby Jacob expressed sincere appreciation to TIES and BUIMERC India Foundation for selecting the school for the programme. He commended the students and teachers for their active participation and emphasized the positive academic and attitudinal impact created through the initiative.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Preetha Mathew, who gratefully acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the TIES team, school leadership, teachers, and students in ensuring the success of the valedictory function.
With this, the Wings of Awareness journey at M.G.M High School, Pampady came to an inspiring close, leaving behind environmentally conscious young learners equipped with observational skills and a strengthened sense of ecological responsibility
