St. Paul’s College, Kalamassery, has set a significant benchmark in institutional sustainability by integrating ISO-standard Green Audits, reflecting its strong commitment to environmental responsibility and systematic resource conservation. The comprehensive audit framework has been strategically designed to support NAAC accreditation while strengthening institutional quality standards.
The Green Audit covers key environmental and operational domains aligned with internationally recognised ISO standards, including Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001:2015), Water Efficiency Management (ISO 46001:2019), Biodiversity Conservation (ISO 14001:2015), Occupational Health and Safety (ISO 45001:2018), Carbon Footprint Analysis (ISO 14067:2018), and Energy Management Systems (ISO 50001:2018). The extensive scope of this initiative positions the college for potential recognition through national and international accreditations and sustainability awards.
Following the formal signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the ISO Green Audit, the Tropical Institute of Ecological Sciences (TIES), serving as the auditing agency, presented the institutional audit manual and outlined the audit procedures to the college management. The session was attended by Fr. Varghese Valiyaparambil, Manager, and Dr. Pramada Ramachandran, Principal. Academic, administrative, and student representatives also participated, including Dr Priyesh K. V., IQAC Assistant Coordinator; Dr Gibin Jacob, Assistant Professor; and Athul Krishna A. B., Student Representative.
Subsequently, a day-long specialised training programme on internal auditing procedures was conducted for a selected group of faculty members and students. The training was led by experts from TIES, including Dr. Punnen Kurian, Director, TIES, Dr. Bindhu B. K., Head of the Environmental Division, TIES, and Ms. Abhirami K. P., Project Manager, TIES. The programme was coordinated by Ms. Surya, Intern, TIES.
The training equipped participants with essential skills and
practical knowledge in internal auditing techniques and their application
within the Green Audit framework. This collaborative and structured initiative
marks a significant step towards comprehensive environmental assessment and the
development of a sustainable campus ecosystem at St. Paul’s College,
Kalamassery
