The Tropical Institute of Ecological Sciences (TIES) successfully conducted the Valedictory Ceremony for the internship programme of Diploma Chemical Engineering students from TOMS College of Engineering & Polytechnic, Mattakkara, and also organized an Orientation Session for a new batch of B.Tech Chemical Engineering interns on the same day.
The valedictory ceremony marked the successful completion of a two-week internship programme held from 8 to 22 June 2026. A total of 19 students from the S3 and S5 Diploma in Chemical Engineering batches participated in the programme.
During the internship, the students undertook project-based studies in Soil Science, Water Quality Management, Microplastics, and Waste Management. They also gained hands-on exposure to the research and laboratory facilities at TIES and participated in educational visits to the Milma Dairy Plant, Kottayam, the District Soil Testing Laboratory, a Plastic Recycling Unit, and Kottayam Municipality. These experiences helped the students connect theoretical knowledge with real-world environmental and industrial applications.
The Valedictory Session was led by Dr. Punnen Kurian, Director and Mentor of the internship programme, who congratulated the students on successfully completing their internship and encouraged them to continue developing scientific skills, critical thinking, and an innovative mindset.
On the same occasion, TIES welcomed 28 students from the S2 and S4 B.Tech Chemical Engineering batches of TOMS College of Engineering & Polytechnic for a new internship programme scheduled from 22 June to 6 July 2026. During the orientation session, Dr. Punnen Kurian introduced the students to the vision, facilities, and multidisciplinary initiatives of TIES and outlined the objectives, structure, expectations, and learning outcomes of the programme.
The event concluded with an interactive session, reaffirming TIES' commitment to providing quality experiential learning, research exposure, and industry-oriented training opportunities for aspiring engineers.The programme was effectively coordinated by Ms. Avany P. R., Internship Manager, TIES.
