TIES Undergraduate Research & Community Internship Registration Portal

Welcome: Solve Local, Impact Global

TIES invites ambitious undergraduate students from all disciplines in Kerala to join our premier Research and Community Internship Programme. This initiative is designed to be an immersive, problem-solving experience where academic theory directly intersects with pressing local environmental and social challenges.

Aligned with international standards for undergraduate research experiences, this programme offers you the opportunity to conduct minor research projects within your own locality, collaborating directly with three-tier panchayats, local industries, and community stakeholders. Environmental and social sustainability is an inherently interdisciplinary challenge. Our projects are curated to allow students from every faculty to apply their unique skills and knowledge.

  • Science (STEM): Engage in hands-on field research, including ecological monitoring, biodiversity assessments, data collection, waste management solutions development, GIS mapping and remote sensing, and citizen science initiatives.
  • Commerce & Economics: Analyze sustainable business models, conduct green auditing, research the circular economy's potential in reducing electronic waste, perform cost-benefit analysis of environmental projects, and investigate the role of environmental taxation or climate finance in adaptation efforts.
  • Arts, Media, & Languages: Develop environmental communication strategies and media campaigns (communicating sustainability), produce documentary films and visual media, create eco-art installations, explore eco-literature, or engage in environmental journalism.
  • History & Humanities: Conduct oral history studies of local environmental changes, explore environmental history, and apply critical thinking to issues of climate ethics and justice.
  • Education: Focus on developing nature-based pedagogy (Green Pedagogy), designing environmental education curricula for schools and the public, facilitating community environmental initiatives, or conducting research in Environmental Education and Sustainable Development (EE & ESD).
  • Governance & Policy: Research local policy frameworks related to urban systems, environmental justice, and sustainable development.

Expected Outcomes and Career Advancement

Participation in the TIES internship leads to demonstrable professional and academic gains:

  • Portfolio and Publication: Generate a high-quality, data-driven Internship Report and possess the opportunity to refine novel findings into a publishable article for undergraduate research journals, supported by TIES faculty mentorship.
  • Employability: Internships are critical predictors of post-graduation job success, leading to shorter job search durations and higher earnings.
