Serious health and environmental hazards are increasing today due to the extensive use of herbicides, pesticides, and weedicides that are used during cultivation. These chemicals have leached to neighbouring water bodies and agricultural farms, posing severe health issues and also affecting ecology of the area. In this regard, Kerala State Biodiversity Board (KSBB) had entrusted TIES to conduct an extensive scientific study of pineapple cultivation in Kottayam, Idukki and Pathanamthitta Districts. A study was conducted to understand level and impact of chemical usage in pineapple farms. The study report has been approved by the High Court and soon it will become a Govt. order.
